Lalna watched in horror as Kim screamed from her tower.  He stood next to her door, unsure of what to do.  It had been weeks since she had come out originally and said that she was fine.  She didn't look it - with the flux slowly creeping up her skin.  In fact, since then the flux had nearly covered her body.  She joked that it was making her look magical and she liked it.  He constantly tried giving her something, to slow the take over, but she refused saying she felt fine.

She was his apprentice and he cared for her immensely.  Something in his heart snapped when he heard her scream again - it sounded fearful.  He clenched his fists and kicked the door in, praying he wasn't the coward he thought it was.

He froze, wide eyed, seeing Kim standing at the bottom of the stairs.  Her skin was a dark purple and seemed to sparkle in the sun that came through the open door - they never got to removing the barriers from the windows.  Although the sun was on her, her face seemed to be in a shadow.  He swallowed, his throat suddenly becoming tight.

"K-Kim?  You alright?  I heard you scream."  He cursed to himself hearing how weak his voice sounded.

Kim tilted her head and he almost swore he could see her teeth shining from the shadows on her face.  "We are perfect Lalna.  Better than ever."

Lalna frowned.  Something was wrong with her voice.  It was as though many people were talking behind her usually soft voice.  He took a step towards her and she looked up.  He froze again, her purple eyes bore into him.  Every part of the eye was purple and a purple mist was flowing from them.  She walked towards him, making him unconsciously take a step back.  She smiled.

"Why, mentor, are you scared of us."  Kim smiled darkly at him.

"Kim, you're sick."  Lalna said, his voice shook slightly as he said it.  "I need to get you to someone who knows how to help you."  He cursed at himself for not paying attention to Rythian in Old World when the mage warned him of the dangers of ancient magic.

"You will not take us anywhere."  Kim frowned, and the sparkling purple on her arms seemed to glow.  Lalna's eyes widened.  Wisps began appearing around her and they swirled around her small body.  "We are one!"

The wisps flew towards him and he yelped, scrambling out the door as they zapped at him.  He ran to the fountain, turning as the wisps dispersed to the world.  Kim slowly came out of her tower.  When she touched the grassy courtyard, the grass turned a dark purple before dying below her feet.  The flowers around her changed into a different breed.  Lalna watched with wide eyes as his apprentice began floating, her arms outs reached.

"We are one!"  Kim repeated, her voice was loud and Lalna realized that the voices with hers must be the flux.

"Kim!"  He felt hopeless.  She ignored him as he watched her gain altitude.  Lalna clenched his fists again, and concentrated.  "Ridgedog!  I need you!"

"Yes?"  Ridgedog floated behind him, smiling slyly.  "You rarely call for me, Lalna.  What is -."

"Kim.  Flux.  Problem."  Lalna said quickly, pointing to the floating woman.

Ridgedog frowned, looking up.  "Crap!"  His golden eyes widened and he flew quickly to Kim.  "Kimmy?  Kimmy, look at me!"

She stopped floating and looked at the Reaper with her glowing eyes.  "Why do you stop us, Immortal.  We are powerful.  Is that not what you wanted for us?"

"Kimmy, listen to me.  Listen to Lalna.  Come back to us.  We can help you."  Ridgedog grabbed her shoulders, hissing and pulling his hands back.  Purple steam came from his palms and he looked at her in a panic.  "Kim, please tell me you're still in there."

"We are one."  Kim smiling at him.  "We are Mother."

Ridgedog's face fell with defeat.  Lalna saw his expression and stiffened.  If the Reaper looked defeated, what hope did they have.

Something in him snapped.  Something bubbled in his gut and he stepped closer to the floating woman - she was about six feet over him.  He could feel the tears burning at his eyes and his heart pounded in his ears.

"Kim...I'm so sorry.  I should have never scared you into that node."  Ridgedog looked at him with wide eyes and Kim looked down at him with a frown.  Lalna spoke, letting his heart out.  "When you did, I should have helped you rather than hide you in that tower.  You forgave me, but I never forgave myself.  Please, come back to me Kim."  He smiled softly at her, and could feel the tears on his cheeks.

Ridgedog looked between the two and smiled.  He disappeared with a pop.  Lalna ignored him and held his arms out.  "Please..."

Kim's expression softened, and grew confused.  She doubled over in the air, clutching her head.  She screamed falling slowly to the ground.  "Get out of my head!"  Lalna's eyes widened as she touched down.  She was doubled over her knees, rocking and holding her head.  "I don't want you here!  Go away!"

Lalna's heart broke and stepped back.  "Kim..."

She shook her head quickly.  "No!  Lalna, I mean...this thing inside me.  I need help!"

Lalna ran to her, grabbing her shoulders.  He flinched, his hands burned when she touched her skin.  He gritted his teeth and gripped tighter.  "Kim, listen to me.  Remember those potions I tried to give you that you refused?"  She nodded.  "I need you to drink one."

"Or three."  Kim looked up at him and forced a smile.  He smiled softly at her and chuckled.  He reached into his pocket and uncorked one of the potions he had grown accustomed to drinking.  He put it in her mouth and she drank it quickly.

The two grew quiet, Lalna still holding her shoulders with her rocking slowly from her doubled position.  After a moment she stopped rocking at the burning heat in Lalna's hands disappeared.  He looked at one of his hands, the glove had been melted slightly and he let the girl go to remove the hot rubber.  His hands were fine, and he turned back to Kim.  His heart was pounding in his ears again.

"Kim?"  His voice cracked, making him groan inwardly.

She looked up at him and he smiled wide seeing the glowing purple eyes had been replaced with the amber.  The flux that had spread turned a dark purple - a familiar color.  She smiled at him weakly.  "I'm sorry Lalna...I should have listened to you sooner..."

He pulled her into a hug, and she squeaked.  He rested his chin on her hair and closed his eyes.  "I'm just glad to have you back."

Kim blinked, her cheeks turning red.  Her face was buried in his coat and she could feel his heart pounding.  "L-Lalna?"

He shook his head.  "I'm sorry Kim...this was all my fault...I don't want to loose you."

Kim frowned, pushing herself from him and looked at her mentor.  She saw the tears on his cheeks and his green eyes were shining with more.  She blinked at him.  "Lalna, what -."

He pulled her into a hug and she smiled softly, hugging him back.  She closed her eyes, relaxing in his hug.

They sat like that until the sun began going down.  Kim even dozing off in his grasp.  A small note fell down from the sky and landed next to Lalna's hand.  The scientist shifted so he could hold his apprentice without waking her up and held the note, reading it quickly.  He smiled, looking up at seeing Ridgedog floating above them.  The Reaper smiled and gave a small salute before flying off.  Lalna put his nose into Kim's hair and smiled.

Lalna

The flux is still highly unstable within her.  I spoke to Rythian for you.  He said he would look at her and help her keep the flux at a safe level so that doesn't happen again.

Keep her safe.  She's my apprentice too, you know.
A request from :iconmiya-sakura-uchiha: who wanted Kim being overtaken by the flux.

I have not watched Duncan and Kim's Galacticraft series yet (if that's not evident with my lack of knowledge or writing of that server...) so this is mostly based on the original event that occurred in her Apprentice series

It turned into a rather shippy story, but I like how it turned out ^.^ I hope you do too

okay, I seriously need to finish those other things now...
